What is Red Iron?
Despite the name, red iron buildings are not made from iron. They use steel I-beams, which are coated with a red oxide primer to protect against corrosion and weather damage. This coating gives the steel its characteristic red hue and helps extend the building’s lifespan.
Benefits of Red Iron Buildings
- Durability and Strength: Red iron steel is incredibly strong, allowing buildings to withstand harsh weather conditions, seismic activities, and heavy loads. This makes them ideal for warehouses, commercial buildings, and other large structures.
- Cost-Effectiveness: These buildings are often more affordable than traditional methods due to their prefabricated nature, which reduces construction time and labour costs.
- Customisation and Flexibility: Red iron buildings can be customised to fit various design requirements. They can include mezzanines, lofts, and even second stories without needing interior columns.
- Eco-Friendly: Made from recycled materials, red iron steel is an environmentally friendly option. Its long lifespan reduces the need for frequent replacements, minimising waste.
